RSPH Level 3 Food Safety

 

The Level 3 Food Safety Award targets Management and Supervisory staff in the food catering, retail and manufacturing sectors. Typically such managers or supervisors would operate in the following areas:

  • Residential and Car Homes, Hospitals
  • Retail Outlets
  • Hotels, Pubs, Restaurants and Hospitality Catering
  • Schools and Prisons

Course Aims

  • The aim of the Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering is to provide a knowledge and understanding of food safety principles and practices relevant to supervisors working the in the catering and hospitality sectors.

 

Course Outcomes

  • A knowledge and understanding of the expected behaviours with regard to compliance with relevant food safety legislation
  • A knowledge and understanding concerning the aplication and monitoring of good hygiene practices
  • The manager's or supervisor's role in the implementation of food safety management procedures
  • Recognition of the importance of staff training and the manager's or supervisor's contribution to it

 

Course Details

  • The course is of 2 days duration (i.e 2 x 8 hours sessions) with a small amount of home study required
  • The examination duration is 2 hours and consists of a multi-choice forty question examination
  • Candidates must achieve twenty six correct answers (65%)to be awarded the certificate.
    • A pass will be awarded for 26 to 34 correct answers
    • A credit will be awarded for 35 to 40 correct answers
  • Special circumstances
    • Candidates who may encounter difficulties in meeting the normal examination criteria may apply for special arrangements, for example an oral examination. The requirement for such special arrangements must be mentioned at the time of application
  • It is strongly recommended that applicants refresh this certificate every 3 years

Course Fees

  • Individual course fee for Level 3 Food Safety Certificate is £180. This includes the £40 examination and certificate fee which is payable to Royal Society of Public Health. Special group rates are available, please call to discuss

Course Location

  • Although based in the South West courses can be arranged in most areas of the country either “in house” at clients premises or at a local “off site” venue dependent on numbers.

 

Progression

  • Progression would normally be to the RSPH Advanced Level 4 Managing Food Safety Award which is aimed at Managers.
